Jan 27, 2025, 11:06 AM

Alice Albright, the outgoing Chief Executive Officer of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) has expressed optimism that the in-coming Trump administration would continue to support a successful Compact Programme for The Gambia.

She recently made this remark at the MCC Headquarters in Washington D.C. during a farewell call paid to her by H.E. Momodou Lamin Bah, Ambassador of the Republic of The Gambia to the United States of America. Madam Albright further enjoined The Gambia to continue the good working relations with MCC and engage on relevant issues as it relates to The Gambia’s national development aspirations.

She said despite being out of office, she would continue to advocate for development assistance and cooperation to be extended to countries and people in need around the globe.

For his part, Ambassador Bah thanked Alice Albright, outgoing Chief Executive Office of MCC, for the significant contributions to The Gambia in both the Millennium Challenge Threshold and the Compact Programme.

On behalf of H.E. President Adama Barrow, the Government and People of The Gambia, Ambassador Bah extended profound gratitude and appreciation to Madam Albright for the exceptional leadership and unwavering commitment and support to the Millennium Challenge Threshold and Compact Programmes for The Gambia.

Ambassador Bah further stated that The Gambia looks forward to the full development and implementation of the MCC Programmes while wishing her the very best in her upcoming endeavours.

It would be recalled that as a result of President Adama Barrow’s great democratic credentials, President Joseph R.  Biden in December 2022 announced that The Gambia is eligible to develop a Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact designed to promote economic growth and opportunities.

The United States through the MCC is investing $25 million in Gambian prosperity through the Threshold Programme focused on improving the government’s capacity to deliver reliable electricity to Gambian homes and businesses.
