Roheyatou Malick Lowe, the mayor of Banjul City Council (BCC), has expressed concern over what she described as the “unacceptable behavior” exhibited by Sheikh Jaw, the Ward Councilor of Crab Island, due to his repeated “insults and bullying” directed at his fellow councilors of the BCC.

"I want to make it unequivocally clear that this kind of behaviour is unacceptable and will no longer be tolerated. We cannot focus on our primary mission of delivering essential development in the nation's capital, Banjul, while simultaneously addressing the conduct of grown adults who should act appropriately. His behaviour is unprofessional and violates the ethics and procedures of the council," she stated in response to the recent altercation involving Councilor Jaw and others at the Banjul City Council.

The BCC Mayor expressed her shock upon hearing the news, adding: “I promptly assigned a committee to conduct an independent and comprehensive investigation. These findings will help prevent such behaviour from occurring again within the council.”

Mayor Lowe expressed gratitude to the deputy mayor for his dedication in resolving the issue amicably, even in her absence, saying: “Those who know me can confirm that I do not tolerate indiscipline in any form, whether professional or otherwise. I assure you that we will thoroughly investigate this matter,” she stated.

Concluding, she said: “As the leader of this institution, I will not tolerate such behavior from Councilor Jaw or any other staff members. My primary focus is to enhance the living conditions of the taxpayers in Banjul.”
