Magistrate Colley, court staff charged with felony, theft, fraud

Magistrate Ebrima Janko Colley of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court has been charged, along with his registrar and court clerk, with conspiracy to commit a felony, theft, fraud, breach of trust, and dealing with prohibited drugs.

According to the indictment, Magistrate Colley, Registrar Ridwan Othman, and Clerk Mariama Jankeh Tamba face four counts related to these charges.

The first and second counts allege that in October 2023, at the Kanifing Municipality, the accused conspired to commit a felony, contrary to section 368 of the Criminal Code, and committed theft, contrary to section 245 and punishable under section 267 of the same code.

The charges indicated that the trio conspired to steal 45 blocks of cocaine, which had been tendered as exhibits in a criminal case.

The third and fourth counts, specifically against Magistrate Ebrima Janko Colley and Registrar Ridwan Othman, charged them with fraud, breach of trust, and dealing in prohibited drugs.

Additionally, Clerk Mariama Jankeh Tamba faced a separate charge of neglect of official duty, contrary to section 113 of the Criminal Code.

The particulars of the offence indicated that she Mariama Jankeh Tamba omitted to mark “52 Blocks of Cocaine” that had been tendered and admitted as exhibits in a criminal case.

The accused persons have yet to appear in court to enter their pleas.
