Hon. Mamma Kandeh, party leader and secretary general of the Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC), has congratulated Liberia President-elect Joseph N. Boakai. Boakai won in the just concluded Liberia Presidential run-off election 2023.

“I would also like to congratulate the people of Liberia for the peaceful election and for coming out in their large numbers to exercise their constitutional right. Your comportment before, during and after the election is a worthy example to be emulated by all for a very peaceful and transparent election,” he said.

“To the outgoing President Dr George Manneh Weah, please accept my sincere heartfelt gratitude for peacefully accepting the verdict of the Liberian people to allow sanity to continue raining in your country. The election process you just concluded represents a celebration and not competition. The people of Liberia have emerged victorious and you have set a good precedent by upholding the democratic value and paving the way for a smooth transferring of power. You will be greatly remembered for your decision to accept election results peacefully. This plays a key role in depleting the leadership crisis that confronts West Africa and beyond.”

He added: “With this decision, you will leave the oval office honorably with your head held high. You have allowed a new leadership to peacefully take over to continue the work you started.”

Mr Kandeh went on to wish President-elect Boakai all the best in his new challenge and implored him as former Vice President of Liberia and now President-elect, to always bear in mind that the recipients of his commitment, actions and decisions will be the people of Liberia.

“Finally, I hope you will work towards delivering to your election promises in building a country founded on justice, peace, reconciliation, development and dignity for each and every Liberian,” he stated.
