The Judicial Service Commission, a vital institution tasked with pivotal responsibilities in maintaining the integrity and efficacy of The Gambia's legal system, is chaired by His Lordship the Chief Justice. Comprising six distinguished members, the Commission holds a critical role in safeguarding the principles of justice and upholding the rule of law.
The mandate of the Judicial Service Commission is multifaceted, encompassing crucial functions aimed at enhancing the judiciary's efficiency and accessibility. Among its responsibilities, the Commission is entrusted with appointing judicial officers, advising the President on judicial appointments, and recommending terms and conditions of service for judges and other judicial officers.
Additionally, the Commission plays a pivotal role in proposing measures to improve court administration, implementing public education programs on the justice system, and exercising various other functions as conferred by the National Assembly.
