The donation is meant to support needy Muslims with rams to sacrifice during the Eid-ul Adha commonly known as ‘Tobaski’.
Every year Muslims around the world celebrate the annual festival of Eid-ul Adha. It is celebrated to mark the end of the hajj pilgrimage and to honour the prophet Abraham. According to Islamic teachings, Abraham was instructed to sacrifice his son Ismael to Allah, in a test of faith. God then replaced Ismael with a ram just before the sacrifice was to take place.
It is one of the major days in the Islamic calendar. During this occasion, Muslims celebrate the festival of Eid al-Adha by sacrificing sheep, goats and cows among others for those who are financially capable.
In an interview with The Point, Dr. Jawara, said: “Helping Muslims especially during this time is something that I love to do so much. I am not doing this for popularity or competition, but as Muslims, it’s important that we support those in need,” he said.
“My objectives have and will always put smiles on the faces of needy people. I want to ensure that they also enjoy their Eid-ul Adha like how I am also enjoying mine with my family.”
He maintained that Allah has asked the rich to give to the less fortunate at any time. “However, Tobaski is one of the best times for rich people to extend more of their helping hands to the less fortunate. I am also calling on the rich people to continue to reach out to the less fortunate, particularly at times like this.”
The rams, he went on, will be distributed to Muslims across the length and breadth of the country.
Islam, he added, highlights the moral obligation to support the less fortunate and showcases how generosity can bring about meaningful change.
“Giving Zakat and Sadaqah to the poor and needy is an obligation for every Muslim. It is an essential component of worshiping and appeasing Allah the Almighty.”
The country’s business mogul further added: “By offering a helping hand to the poor and needy, Muslims exemplify the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and fulfill their obligation to Allah.”
