"As members of the business community, you are among our most important partners in this transformative journey; your understanding and support for ITAS will be instrumental in ensuring a smooth and successful transition."
According to Mendy, taxpayers are literally building the future of The Gambia by enabling the GRA mobilise adequate revenue for the construction of roads and public infrastructure, thus, in the process contributing immensely to national development.
"Taxpayers are critical partners and enablers of these national development efforts," he stated.
Mr Mendy further said the GRA has been on a journey of transformation. "It is a journey to modernize our tax and customs processes, to enhance efficiency and to foster a culture of voluntary compliance," he said.
He acknowledged the pivotal role taxpayers play in the economic and infrastructural development of The Gambia, noting that as taxpayers, “you need not only be aware of the existing tax laws, but also the instruments and technologies that underpin revenue administration”.
The introduction of ITAS, therefore, will be a fundamental shift in the operations of the tax administration, he said, adding that it is imperative that both the tax administrators and taxpayers are adequately prepared and equipped to navigate this new reality.
