Imam Ratib of Banjul receives special award

The Imam Ratib of Banjul, Alh. Cherno Alieu Mass Kah has received a special award from the Khalifa General of Medina Baye Sheikh Mohamadou Mahi Niass for his outstanding performance in promoting Islamic religion across the world.

The ceremony was held at Imam Ratib's compound in Banjul on Friday and was attended by religious leaders from the Gambia and Senegal.

Dr. Alh. Imam Ousman Jah has described the award as timely and well deserved award for the Imam Ratib saying his (Imam) contributions in promoting Islamic religion is well known across the country and beyond.

"His knowledge, guidance, and interpretation of Islamic teachings are indispensable for Muslims seeking to navigate the complexities of life by the principles of their faith," he said.

Imam Dr. Jah said Imam Ratib has raised awareness of the importance in our community’s faithful growth and development, contributing in no small way to the revival of a vibrant Islamic ummah, one that has been held back from contributing to humanity for far too long.

"His enduring legacy is the personal investment in teaching people about the Qu'ran and the hadith, to spread the word of Allah," he said of Imam Kah.

His truthfulness and unique qualities could have been attributed to his upbringing, said Bai Sainey Secka alias Bilal of Banjul, who believes that Imam Cherno Alieu Mass Kah has contributed immensely to propagating Islam and the teaching of the Qu'ran and the hadith to youths and communities as a whole.

“He was determined to bring up his children with discipline and in the Islamic way. He respected everyone in the neighborhood, lived with belief in speaking the truth," he said.

Alh. Modou Shengore, the vice chairman of Banjul Muslim elders, Imam Muntaha Faye and Alh Essa Foday Darboe, the president of the Gambia Supreme Islamic Council both recognised the  efforts of the Imam Ratib of Banjul Alh Cherno Alieu Mass Kah in spreading the words of Allah in the country and beyond, while thanking the Khalifa General of Medina Baye Alh. Mohamadou Mahi Niass for awarding the Imam Ratib of Banjul and The Gambia.
