IEC registers 2 new political parties: GPAP and APC

In a move that expands the country’s democratic landscape, the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has officially registered two political parties - the Gambian People’s Advancement Party (GPAP), and the Alliance of Progressive Citizens (APC), as bona fide political parties in The Gambia,

The announcement, made on Thursday, November 6, 2025, follows the parties’ fulfillment of all legal requirements under Section 105 of the Elections Act 2009 (as amended).

Full Statement:

The Independent Electoral Commission wishes to inform the general public that after having met the requirements for registration as a political party under section 105 of the Elections Act 2009 (as amended), the Gambian People’s Advancement Party (GPAP) has on this 6th day of November 2025 been duly registered as a bona fide political party in The Gambia by the Independent Electoral Commission.

The particulars of the Gambian People’s Advancement Party are as follows:

  • Secretary General and Party Leader: Dr. Papa Faal
  • Party Secretariat: Sinchu Alagie, 98C8+QF6
  • Party Acronym: GPAP
  • Party Colours: Royal Purple (One-Quarter: Top) and Sky Blue (Three-Quarter: Bottom)
  • Party Symbol: Millet Stalks and Groundnut Plant
  • Party Motto: Dignity, Justice, Compassion

 

For the APC party, the release reads:

The Independent Electoral Commission wishes to inform the general public that after having met the requirements for registration as a political party under section 105 of the Elections Act 2009 (as amended), the Alliance of Progressive Citizens (APC) has on this 6th day of November 2025 been duly registered as a bona fide political party in The Gambia by the Independent Electoral Commission.

The particulars of the Gambian People’s Advancement Party are as follows:

  • Secretary General and Party Leader: Omar Tobb
  • Party Secretariat: Farato, Kombo South
  • Party Acronym: APC
  • Party Colours: White (Top) and Gold (Below)
  • Party Symbol: Lion
  • Party Motto: Inclusive, Justice, Progressive

As at date, 22 political parties have so far registered.  And The IEC has raised fees of political parties from D 1million to D2 million, while fee to contest for presidency has been increased from D10,000 to D1million.
