Higher Education Ministry launches vital fund manual for skills and entrepreneurship

The Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (MoHERST) in collaboration with the World Bank has developed and launched the first-ever Skills, Innovation and Entrepreneurship (SIE)  Fund manual.

The initiative is part of the World Bank-Funded Resilience, Institution, Skills and Equity (RISE) project to guide the implementation of a Skills, Innovation and Entrepreneurship (SIE) Fund. The launching ceremony was held at the MoHERST’s conference hall in Bijilo.

The SIE Fund is set up to enhance access to technical, innovation and entrepreneurial skills for Gambian youth while improving the relevance and quality of TVET in the country.

The programme was charted from the establishment of the technical advisory committee to give technical support for the implementation of the SIE Fund.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Yusupha Touray, the Permanent Secretary at MoHERST, said that since they started working with the World Bank, they have developed programs around entrepreneurship, and have had a lot of entrepreneurship programs in The Gambia and elsewhere.

The RISE project is out to expand also MoHERST ideas in line with TVET education system, in order to produce job creators.

He further said they would open applications to both public and private training institutions to apply to train for an academic year certain numbers of students in their respective institutions for specific programs.

He highlighted the significance of having the National Accreditation and Quality Assurance Authority (NAQAA) to guide the process of doing programs relevant to the labour market.

MoHERST’s Technology and Innovation Science director Samba Bah made also cogent presentations on the SIE Fund project and related documents.
