High Court hears preliminary arguments in Amie Bensouda vs Mamadi Kurang defamation case

The civil lawsuit filed by prominent lawyer and former Janneh Commission Lead Counsel Amie Bensouda against Alhaji Mamadi Kurang, the Commission’s former Secretary, was mentioned yesterday before Justice Adenike Coker at the High Court in Bakau, sitting in Banjul.

During proceedings, Counsel Combeh Gaye, representing the plaintiff, informed the court that two statements of claim had been duly filed. In response, Counsel A.J. Njie, appearing for the defence, stated that they intend to file their statement of defence by Monday, and would also submit an objection challenging the court’s jurisdiction.

Counsel Gaye noted that the plaintiff would await receipt of the jurisdictional objection before taking any further steps in the matter.

Justice Coker subsequently adjourned the case till 17 November 2025 at 11:30a.m. for further mention.
