The nutrition agency is under the purview of the Office of the Vice President.
Speaking to the press after the meeting, board chairperson, Musa Mbenga, affirmed that the board members visited His Excellency the Vice President to inform him about the project management team’s proposal to launch the “Nafa” programme on Saturday, 26 November 2022 in the Upper River Region.
“The courtesy call was therefore to kindly request for Vice President Joof to officially launch this programme on behalf of the government of The Gambia,” Mr. Mbenga added.
He explained that the Nafa programme is a component of The Gambia government and World Bank-funded 31 million Dollar project called: ‘The Gambia Social Safety Net Project’, that the Agency and partners are implementing.
The programme, he said, entails providing cash transfers to the poorest households in the 20 poorest districts of The Gambia.
The other issue discussed, according to the board chairperson, related to the finalisation of the Nutrition Bill and its accompanying documents for submission to the cabinet. “The Board informed H.E. Badara Joof of the progress with the Bill and the cabinet paper set to be presented to cabinet before the end of December 2022”.
Board Chairperson Mbenga was accompanied to the State House by Mrs. Juka Jabang; Dr Amat Bah, Executive Director NaNA; Mr Balla Joof; and the Senior Planning Officer Mr. BakaryJallow.
