The Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA), is doing everything possible to make sure that its senior staff have the requisite skills and knowledge through learning best practices from foreign countries in order to apply the knowledge in The Gambia to close revenue linkages and improve revenue performance, according to Commissioner General Yankuba Darboe.

Based on this, senior officials of GRA embarked on a study tour to Rwanda recently and visited the Rwanda Utility Regulatory Authority to have an exchange of information on the roles and functions of their work.

The team, headed by the Commissioner General Darboe and accompanied by Deputy Commissioner General Essa Jallow paid particular attention to the Rwandan Revenue Assurance they were monitoring from the GSM companies.

“The Gambia delegation was in Rwanda for a weeklong study tour to learn more technologies and innovation to boost our revenue generation. We will continue to register unprecedented achievements for the Gambia Revenue Authority in revenue performance through introduction of new reforms and other services,” Darboe said.

According to Commissioner General Darboe, during their visit to the Rwanda Revenue Assurance Office, live presentations were made by Rwandan experts in the way revenue is monitored for VAT and excise taxes collection as well as the mobile money live transaction.

GRA boss also pointed out that the visit was dictated by the fact that the Gambia Revenue Authority is about to start the Revenue Assurance programme in The Gambia. “This visit was very timely as it gives the team first hand information on the procedures and process of the revenue assurance,” he said.

He also stated that at the end of the presentations, questions and answers session took place making the visiting Gambian team very satisfied with what they had seen.

CG Darboe also emphasised that he would not relent in ensuring that the staff of GRA tap the untapped opportunity for the Gambia.

Mr Darboe seized the opportunity to proudly thank his senior staff for their keen participation during the study tour to Rwanda. He urged them to continue the team spirit and nurture a culture of sharing and caring of best practices.
