The signing ceremony was attended by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs, GFMDP team headed by Anta Taal and senior management of GRA as well as top officials of the SSHFC headed by its Managing Director Malang Saloum.
GRA’s Commissioner General Yankuba Darboe, at the signing event, pointed out that the MOU marks a significant step forward in fostering a more collaborative and efficient working relationship between GRA and SSHFC. He added that the importance of strong partnership between these institutions cannot be overstated.
According to the GRA boss, the MOU signifies a commitment to collaborate in areas such as data sharing, information exchange and joint initiatives. He reiterated that the synergy would “allow us to leverage each other’s strength and resources to achieve our shared goals by promoting economic growth, ensuring compliance, and uplifting social welfare in The Gambia.”
CG Darboe further stated that both the GRA and SSHFC play vital roles in the country’s development.
“The GRA works tirelessly to collect taxes, fostering a culture of compliance that fuels national development projects. The SSHFC on its part provides social security benefits and facilitates access to affordable housing-both crucial for the well-being of Gambians,” he reminded.
“GRA and SSHFC are fully committed to upholding the principles of transparency, accountability, and integrity in all joint endeavors. “We are confident that this MOU will pave the way for future collaborative projects, initiatives, and capacity building programmes”.
For his part, the Managing Director of SSHFC, Mr. Malang Saloum, expressed satisfaction for the MOU, saying that “both institutions have many common objectives to work together in the best interest of national development.” He added that it is only through collective efforts and complementing each other that can help to achieve our national objectives as a country.
Signing a contract earlier between GRA and Sogema Technologies Limited, the Canadian company, CG Darboe described it as a significant step for GRA. He cited that GRA has been working tirelessly towards the digitalisation of revenue collection and processes.
CG Darboe pointed out that the contractor SOGEMA Technologies, and GRA have high expectations about the project.
“We expect a robust and efficient system to be delivered on time and within budget,” he said. He stated that that the project is not just a milestone for GRA, but also a significant development for the Gambian economy as a whole.
