The commissioner general of The Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA), Yankuba Darboe, has disclosed that GRA has collected D5.2 billion tax from January to March 2024.
According Commissioner General Darboe, the Authority collected over D1.7 billion in January; D1.4 billion in February and over D2 billion in March, accruing to a sum of D5.2 billion in three months.

While updating the media on GRA’s quarterly revenue collection, CG Darboe said GRA is now left with D14 billion to collect in order to meet its annual revenue target for the 2024.

He assured that with collective collaboration and cooperation and willingness from the taxpayers and commitment from his staff, the Authority would meet its target by end of December.

Speaking on ‘Coffee Time with Peter Gomez’ on Tuesday, CG Darboe described the March collections as “one of the best record collections.”

Explaining the reasons for the growth, Mr. Darboe said series of things have been happening leading to those record collections.

He alluded that the annual tax payers’ awards has immensely contributed as it helps GRA in terms of tax payers’ compliance.

“Since we started this, we have realised that the tax payers are always coming forward to do the needful as far as their tax payment is concerned; as lot of them would want to win an award recognising their tax compliance.”

“We have also noticed that yearly, the number of compliance increases which is really helping us,” CG Darboe revealed.

He further explained that the reform the institution is engaged in has its share of contribution. “We have to rely on domestic revenue mobilisation and for us to efficiently carry out this act; we have to go through reforms. Currently, we are already working on the Single Window System which has series of advantages for our tracking,” he said.

He added that the system helps GRA in tracking the movement of goods for which customs duty has not been paid.

“We have also started excisable good stamp for the local produce goods and others that are coming in to be able to charge them the duty price,” Darboe said.

“We want to live in a country that is protected with developments ongoing. To achieve this, people must pay their taxes especially businesses.”

The GRA supremo noted that “their (people) businesses are ongoing because government has given them the platform and to continue with this, they need to help the government by paying their taxes, accept the reforms and comply with them.”
