
GPS, he said, aims to equip its officers with the essential skills and knowledge necessary for their professional progression and to enhance the effectiveness of the prison service as a whole.
Manneh highlighted that investing in the growth of officers ultimately contributes to a more efficient and humane correctional system, benefiting both the staff and the inmates under their care.
“The gathering is about honouring the unwavering commitment and professional excellence demonstrated by our colleagues who have been promoted to new ranks within the service. It also reflects the integrity displayed by our officers. These promotions signify their dedication to upholding standards within our correctional institution,” he stated.
Manneh maintained that the promotion of the prison officers is a cornerstone of the GPS strategy that aims to establish a professional, efficient, and accountable correctional system, adding: “These promotions serve not only as recognition of individual dedication and performance but also as a crucial mechanism for fostering leadership and enhancing institutional standards of correctional practice.”
He urged the promoted officers to ensure a continuous pipeline of capable leaders who can effectively manage and guide the service, especially as senior officers retire or transition out of service.
On the issue of capacity building initiative, he added, the GPS regularly organises training, both locally and internationally, with the desire of equipping its officers with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in their roles.
Recognising the importance of strong leadership, the GPS boss said, focus is on developing mid-level managers through specialised training to prepare them for higher responsibilities, saying: “Promotions are aligned with broader security sector reforms, ensuring that the GPS evolves in line with national development goals and international best practices.”
