Their appointments will be in accordance with section 3(5) of The Gambia Anti-Corruption Act, 2023, according to a vacancy notice on the Ministry of Justice website.
“The Gambia Anti-Corruption Commission is established under the Act as a body corporate with perpetual succession and a common seal.”
The Commission has the authority to sue and be sued in its corporate name, enter into contracts, acquire, hold, manage, and dispose of property, and exercise the rights, powers, and privileges of a natural person of full age and capacity.
This Commission is tasked with promoting integrity, transparency, and accountability in public and private sectors and combating corruption in all its forms.
The Commission shall consist of a Chairperson and two other members. The members shall be appointed by the President after consultation with the Public Service Commission and subject to the approval of the National Assembly.
According to the notice, the chairperson shall hold office for a term of five years, and other members of the Commission shall hold office for a term of four years. “Both may be re-appointed for one more term. The chairperson and other members of the Commission shall hold office on a full-time basis and shall hold no other office in the private or public sector.”
