According to official sources, The Gambia government yesterday restored the duty charged on cement coming from Senegal, which was increased last week to 500%.

A bag, which was charged D30 per kg, was increased to D180 per kg.

However, the Government has now restored it to D30 per kg as before.

The increment ignited a storm of demonstration on Sunday  at the Gambia-Senegal border between Karang  and Amdalai, where up to 58 trucks loaded with cement were stopped and stuck.
