The network, in a statement obtained by The Point, also urged the Ghanaian president to champion regional stability.
WADEMOS is an independent and non-partisan network comprising 47 civil society organisations across West Africa.
With its headquarters based in Accra, Ghana, the network mobilises collective efforts to defend democracy, advocate for good governance, and promote inclusive development in the region.
The network also lauded Ghana’s peaceful elections and smooth political transition as a beacon of hope for a sub-region plagued by political instability, human rights violations, and unconstitutional leadership changes.
WADEMOS also called on President Mahama to lead efforts to address pressing regional challenges, particularly the impending exit of Sahelian States from ECOWAS.
“We celebrated Ghana’s unwavering commitment to democratic values, emphasizing its role as a model of electoral transparency and political stability in West Africa," the network stated.
"The peaceful transition of power underscores Ghana’s leadership in upholding democracy, even as other nations in the sub-region grapple with governance crises.”
