Gambia's population rises to 2.4m,  Mandinkas  highest

The  population of The Gambia has risen to 2.42 million in the latest 2024 Population Census, which is equivalent to 2,422,712. This was revealed at a function for the unveiling  of  the Population and Housing Census  Preliminary Report held at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara Conference  International Conference Centre where the Vice President presided over the launching.

The Preliminary Report indicates that 1.24 million (51%) are female, while  1.19 million (49 %) are male.

Banjul CC has the lowest population in the Gambia at 1.1% of the total population, and Brikama is the most populous LGA for the 2024 population census where they emerge as 47.5% of the Gambia Population, then followed by Kanifing Municipality Council at 15.7%, Basse 10.8%, Kerewan 10.3%, Janjanbureh 6.1%, Kuntaur 4.9% and Mansakonko 3.7% respectively.

The 2024 Population and Housing Census also indicates that the Fula population has risen to 25% over the Wollof at 15.4%. The Mandinka population still remains the highest in the Gambia at 34.4%.
