Reacting after receiving the prestigious Africa Security Award, Sowe delivered an impassioned message of gratitude and unity, saying: “With the permission of the Inspector General of Police, I want to dedicate this award to the Gambian people,” he declared. “The police alone cannot succeed without the support of the community.”
Sowe, a seasoned officer and respected investigator, thanked the organisers of the 19th Africa Security Award ceremony, acknowledging the significance of the honour. “I accept this award with humility, but I dedicate it to the people of The Gambia. Security is everyone’s business. For me as a police officer to be recognised means a great deal, but it is only possible because of the collective support of our citizens.”
He emphasised the vital partnership between the police and the public, noting the country’s limited police numbers compared to its population. “For an individual officer to succeed, it cannot be in the absence of the community. I encourage Gambians to close the gap between themselves and the security services, so together we can maintain our nation as the Smiling Coast.”
