IGP Seedy Muktar Touray gave this warning last Thursday in Farafenni, as he presided over the laying of a foundation stone for five new model police stations to be built in the country.
The project, part of joint EU-German Support to The Gambia Police Project, is being financed by the German Federal Foreign Office (AA) and co-financed by the European Union (EU); highlighting the collaborative efforts to enhance law enforcement capabilities and improve public safety across The Gambia.
The Police Chief reminded that police are charged with the role of maintaining rule of law and to ensure order in every nook and cranny of this country as enshrined in the 1997 Constitution of the Republic of The Gambia.
“We will not relent in this endeavour and will reach criminals where-ever they are hiding. The Gambia will not provide any safe heaven to criminal and their core conspirators.”
The Gambia, he added, welcomes and embraces all law-abiding individuals with no distinction between who is a citizen and non-citizen.
“And if you commit no criminal offence, we have no bone to pick with you. But, if you break the law, you will not be spared.”
Moreover, the Farafenni symbolic ceremony marking the launch of an ambitious project, will see construction of similar modern police stations in Brikama, Soma, Makama Sireh and Basse.
IGP Touray assured that all those projects will be completed on time, further thanking the Federal Republic of Germany and European Union for their magnanimous support to the Gambia Police Force and the country at large.
These model police stations, he added, would significantly strengthen democratic polices and security in the five respective communities.
