Gambia inks ITC cooperation agreement with Mauritius

The Governments of The Gambia and Mauritius on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in the Information and Communication Technologies (ITC) field.

The event, held at Pretoria in South Africa, was signed on behalf of the two governments by H.E. Mrs Fatoumata Jahumpa Ceesay, High Commissioner of the Republic of The Gambia to the Republic of South Africa, and H.E. Mr Prakarmajith Vijaye LUTCHMUN, High Commissioner of the Republic of Mauritius to the Republic of South Africa.

Obtained on the MoU, the two governments considered that the development of ITC and Space including satellite launching are major factors in the promotion of trade and technical exchanges, as well as the economic and social development of each country in the 21st century.

The parties also recognised the importance of developments in the various areas of ICT, Postal Services and Space Technologies, to the benefit of both countries, especially in the conduct of international business, guided by the mutual benefit and interests of both parties in encouraging and supporting partnerships, commercial ventures, research and development in cybersecurity, digitalisation of vaccination data, postal services, innovation and space technologies.

The countries desire to enhance cooperative relations in the international arena to deepen regional economic development while considering that both countries are willing to encourage cooperation between the private sector, academia and international organisations operating in both countries to achieve the objectives of the MoU.
