As a result of this action, the price of a loaf of bread has noticeably been stabilised in the region of D10 in recent months.
It would be recalled that recently bakers complained about the increase of wheat flour prices. But, according to some business people, “the bakers are happy” about the government’s intervention and “are hopeful” that the price might go even lower to D9 for a loaf of bread.
The move by the Gambian government is highly commendable as it comes in a time of global hyperinflation wherein prices of goods have skyrocketed.
The recent developmentwould enable the Gambian people to buy flour andbread which isa basic necessity at affordable prices, official sources said.
