The 9th prosecution witness in the alleged PIU shooter case yesterday testified before Justice E. Jaiteh of the High Court in Banjul that he was the driver that drove the first and the second accused from Brufut to Darsilami.

The witness Abdoulie Drammeh told the court that he started driving over 9 years ago. He said the second accused, Amie Bojang, went to their garage in Brikama for a town trip to Brufut, adding that the accused told him she was going to pick up someone.

The driver told the court that he and the second accused agreed on a payment of D1,300 to Brufut. Upon their arrival at Brufut, the driver said, the second accused alighted and told him to wait for her.

He said he stood there for a few minutes and the first accused, Ousainou Bojang, came and opened the back door of the car and entered. The driver said he asked Ousainou what happened and Ousainou told him:“The person [the 2nd accused] you came with, came for me.”

He further said that after a minute, the second accused also came and boarded the car and they drove to Brikama. He said that on their way to Brikama, both accused were speaking in Jola language.

Lawyer for the first accused, counsel L.J. Darboe referred to the police statement of the witness and read some parts where the witness stated that he heard both the accused saying “toubab” in the vehicle.

The witness then confirmed to the court that, that was what he heard. He narrated that when they got to Brikama, which was the agreement he had with the 2nd accused, and upon their arrival in Brikama, the 2nd accused Amie Bojang told Ousainou Bojang to go to the garage.

But he said Ousainou told Amie Bojang that the police who advised him told him not to go to a crowded or public place, adding that both accused were speaking in Mandinka and Wollof languages.

The witness further testified that the sister (the 2nd accused) then told him the driver to take them to Darsilami, and they agreed to pay D1,200.

He added that upon their arrival at Darsilami, they stopped at a bicycle mechanic and the sister alighted and told him that she was coming.

He further said there was a motorcycle on the other side of the road and the sister went there and was talking with the motorcycle driver, adding that the sister then came back and told Ousainou: “Let us go, the motorcycle driver has agreed.”

The witness said that Ousainou then went with the motorcycle driver and he (the witness) went back with the sister (the 2nd accused) to Brikama, and upon arrival in Brikama, between the church and the police station, he said they waved at a 7-passenger vehicle that was going to Serrekunda and it stopped.

He added that the sister then boarded that vehicle and he (the witness) left. The witness called the court’s attention, saying he forgot to tell the court that when he was driving the sister from Brikama to Brufut, he told her that he heard there was someone who killed service men but the sister did not respond.

The case was adjourned until 3 May 2024.
