A general amnesty measure leading to the release of Ousmane Sonko and others is expected to be adopted tomorrow – Wednesday – under the instructions of Senegalese President Macky Sall, according to Seneweb.

The president of the Republic during a previous Council of Ministers meeting instructed the Minister of Justice to prepare the draft amnesty law.“Beyond the people arrested on the sidelines of the demonstrations, the measure should concern older facts, notably those linked to the convictions of Karim Wade and Khalifa Sall,” it also reported. It further reported that “President Macky Sall thus wants to give each actor the chance to participate in the national dialogue and for those who wish, in the Presidential election which has just been postponed to another date.”The report went on to say that it is a question of confirming his already expressed wish to leave a peaceful and stable Senegal at the end of the dialogue which he wants to be inclusive. This amnesty law will pass through Parliament and “thus mark the first step towards a cordial understanding for an inclusive dialogue”, a source tells Seneweb.

The restoration of the Walf signal is part of this desire for appeasement.

Meanwhile, in an interview with AP, Macky Sall warned politicians against 'organised forces' who could take power, suggesting that a much-feared coup.

For the scenario of the cancellation of the law postponing the Presidential election, he prefers to wait for the decision of the 7 Wise Men of the Constitutional Council,” reports the Publication.

According to Vox Populi, Macky prefigures “the worst-case scenario” by declaring that “if politicians are not able to agree on the essentials, other organised forces will do it in their place and they will lose the whole country with it.”

Last Friday 3 youths were killed in Dakar, Saint Louis and Zigunchor following a demonstration against the postponement of the elections which was scheduled to take place on 25th February 2024 but now postponed to 15 December 2024, according to media reports.

Walf TV, a private TV which was closed down 10 days ago was reopened on Sunday.
