Dove beauty cream bar soap, 100G, recalled

The Medicines Control Agency (MCA) confirmed with National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Nigeria, regarding their ordered recall of Dove Beauty Cream Bar Soap, 100g, with batch number 81832M 08, produced in Germany.

The recall alert was communicated to NAFDAC by BfArM, Germany after detecting Butylphenyl Methylpropional (BMHCA) in the Dove Beauty Cream Bar Soap, 100g in Germany.

In a statement on its website, NAFDAC disclosed that the soap contains a harmful chemical impurity, (BMHCA), also known as Lilial, which is banned in cosmetic products in several countries, including across the European Union.

“BMHCA is prohibited in cosmetic products due to its serious potential health risks such as reproductive harm, including risks to unborn children, and may cause skin sensitisation, leading to allergic reactions.”

“MCA hereby wish to inform the general public that the Dove Beauty Cream Bar Soap, 100g, with batch number 81832M 08 is being recalled by MCA and therefore, the public is hereby warned to immediately desist from using this batch of the product and submit any remaining to MCA Office.”

“All businesses in possession of Dove Beauty Cream Bar Soap, 100g, with batch number 81832M 08 are hereby requested to handover the stock to MCA without delay. Any noncompliance with this recall order would contravene the Medicines and Related Products Act, 2014, and Medicines and Related Products Regulations, 2020, thereby leading to severe regulatory sanctions.”
