Documents before LGCI raises eyebrows over Ex-KMC PR manager's hiring

The application and appointment documents of the erstwhile public relations manager of KMC, Isatou Faal, indicate that she was employed the same day she applied.

Faal worked with Bensouda before his ascension to the mayoral seat of KM, which raised eyebrows of the inquirers over possible foul play or conflict of interests.

In her testimony on Thursday, she testified that she was employed in June 2018. She explained to the Commission that she used to work with Talib Bensouda before his election as mayor, adding that after the election, she informed the him that she wanted to work with him in the Council.

The mayor's company is called Safaro Gambia Limited, a trading company. Faal said she was a sales woman, then an operations manager and marketing.

She said the mayor asked her to file her application and that was when she went to the human resources unit of the KMC to make inquiries about vacant positions. She then applied for the position of PR manager, which was vacant.

She was asked about the time difference between her application and her appointment. She mentioned that the time difference was about a week.

She said she had an interview with the HR Manager Dembo Jah and was appointed within a week after the interview.

At this point, Lead Counsel Gomez gave the Faal the offer of appointment given to her by the KMC, dated 7 June 2018. She identified it and it was admitted in evidence.

Lead Counsel Gomez requested for her to be given both the application and the offer of appointment, and she was given the documents

“Madam Faal, what is the date of your application?” Lead Counsel Gomez posed.

“7th June 2018,” she answered.

“And the date of your appointment?” Gomez asked.

“7th June 2018,” Faal responded.

“It seems you were appointed the same day you applied for the job. Do you realise that?” the lead counsel asked.

“Yes, I saw the dates,” Faal stated, beginning to argue that she was not appointed on the day she submitted her application.
