Cyber security training provides platform to address cyber threats – Dr Tangara

Dr Mamadou Tangara, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad yesterday informed participants at the Cyber Crime and Cyber Security EenrichmentPprogram that the training has provided a valuable platform for experts, practitioners and policymakers to converge, exchange knowledge, and strengthen their collective capacity to address the challenges posed by cyber threats.

Dr Tangara was speaking at the closing ceremony of a four-day training on Cyber Security and CyberCrime for Public Officials organised by the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption Center (ROLACC) and held at the International Conference Center in Bijilo.

He affirmed that all participants had been equipped with the necessary tools and strategies to enhance cybersecurity measures and combat cybercrime effectively in their respective institutions.

He thanked and appreciated President Adama Barrow and his Government, as well as ROLACC, UNITAR and CIFAL Doha, for their relentless efforts in organising such a very important training.

“Your commitment to fostering regional cooperation and capacity building in the realm of cybercrime and cybersecurity is commendable and I am confident that this initiative will contribute significantly to our collective efforts in addressing cyber threats,” he said.

 “The participants’ presence will further cement the ties that exist between their countries and additionally signal a collective commitment to international collaboration as they address the threats posed by cybercrime within the sub-region. 

“We have an opportunity to maintain networks established during this training and to advocate for increased investment in cybersecurity capacity building, research, and international cooperation to confront the ever-changing nature of cybercrime.”

For his part, Ambassador Lang Yabou, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated since the training had ended, it was now time for them to begin the next phase of the journey where they would get to apply the valuable lessons and experiences acquired from the training.

The participants were awarded certificates at the end of the event.
