Some Central River Region’s alkalolu who have spoken to our correspondent have confirmed that they have not received their salaries for the past four months.

President Adama Barrow during his presidential campaign for re-election confirmed that he would pay alkalolu across the country monthly salaries. However, some alkalolu in Central River Region (CRR) have had to disclose that they have been without their salaries for four months.

The payment of alkalolu commenced in January 2022 but the salaries of the said alkalolu have not been forthcoming of late.

According to some alkalolu in the region, the promise was a mere political campaign strategy to win their votes.

Alhagie Jai Jai Kanteh, the alkalo of Niani Sukuta in Niani District, confirmed to our reporter that he had not been paid for more than 4 months. He said he had made several trips to Kuntaur Area Council to get his salary without success.

Momodou Whan, the alkalo of Changai Torro in Sami District, CRR north, said he did not also receive his salary for the past three months.

Kebuteh Jabbi, the alkalo of Barajally in Niani District, confirmed being in the same situation.

Ello Jawo, the alkalo of Wellingara in Sami District, also confirmed that he had not received salary for four months.

Other alkalolu in Niamina, Fuladu, Saloum and Nianija districts have also confirmed to The Point that they have not been receiving their salaries for months.

One of them said: “You can fool someone to miss his or her breakfast and lunch but you cannot fool him or her for the dinner.”

Another one said: "President Barrow used us and our families to get votes for himself and his National Assembly Members but we will vote against his candidates in the Local Government Elections.”

They called on President Barrow to fulfil his promise by paying them their salaries to take care of the needs of their families.
