The special committee that will investigate the controversial sale and disposal of former President Yahya Jammeh's assets identified by the Janneh Commission has been set up.

The Parliamentary Committee of Selection, through the Majority Leader, Billay J. Tunkara, yesterday presented the nominated members for the Special Committee for approval following the acceptance of a motion for a parliamentary probe into what is considered a "national concern" over the asset sale of former president Jammeh.

The proposed seven-member Special Select Committee, with no female member, is to be chaired by Abdoulie Ceesay, MP for Old Yundum (NPP). Madi Ceesay, member for Serrekunda West (UDP), is named as vice-chairperson; Omar Jammeh, member for Janjanbureh (Independent) committee member, Suwaibou Touray, member for Wuli East (PDOIS), Sheriff Sarr, member for Jeshwang (APRC), nominated MP Kebba Lang Fofana, and Hon. Alhagie Mbowe (NRP).

The list was later approved after a heated debate with majority voting in favour of it. 24 members voted in favour, 16 against and 1 abstention.
