Chinese Embassy boosts Defence Ministry with vehicle

The Chinese Embassy in the Gambia last Thursday, 31 March 2022 donated a brand new vehicle to The Ministry of Defence.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Sheikh Omar Faye, the minister for Defence expressed gratitude and appreciation to the Chinese Ambassador to The Gambia for the consistent support rendered to the Gambia government over the years.

 

According to the Defence minister, China is one of the true friends of The Gambia and that China always responds to The Gambia’s request for support. He added the donor’s assistance is clearly manifested by various Chinese development interventions in The Gambia over the years.

He also confirmed that the People’s Republic of China and The Gambia have a long standing bilateral cooperation and partnership based on mutual trust and respect.

The Defence minister then took the opportunity to thank both the presidents of the People’s Republic of China and The Gambia for creating the enabling environment between the two countries.

He also used the platform to underline transportation constraints faced by the Ministry of Defence, saying that “this vehicle will greatly help to ease staff transport movement from office to home.”

“We thank you for this donation. I can assure you that the vehicle will be properly maintained in order to efficiently run the errands of the ministry as well as to transport the staff from work to their respective homes.”

For his part, the Chinese Ambassador to the Gambia expressed similar sentiments, while acknowledging the relationship between the two countries over the years. He also expressed happiness to visit the minister of Defence Sheikh Omar Faye.

He assured of the Chinese Embassy’s support to the government of The Gambia through the Ministry of Defence.
