Ambassador Liu Jin equally hosted the International Chinese Language Day at a ceremony held at its Embassy at Bijilo. This year’s ceremony witnessed the increased number of Chinese Ambassador Scholarship winners from 30 to 40 with assurance to maintain the scale of the Ambassador scholarship and that of the Chinese Government Scholarships with future expansion.
Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Liu Jin said that after the two countries resumed diplomatic relations in 2016, a total of nearly 300 Gambian students have received scholarships to study in China.
He said the vast majority of them is playing a positive role in The Gambia’s economic and social development after studying in China.
Ambassador Jin recalled that last year, Minister Pierre Gomez signed a MOU of cooperation on vocational education between the two countries with his Chinese counterpart, opening up a new area of vocational education cooperation.
He said 15 teachers in vocational education area have been invited to China to participate in capacity building program, and also that Gambian young students and skilled talents have been invited to China to participate in the Second Belt and Road International Skills Competition.
“We are promoting USET to join the China-Africa TVET Cooperation Consortium, and identifying sister institutions in China for USET,” he said.
“Last year, H.E. President Xi Jinping attended the China-Africa Leaders’ Dialogue in Johannesburg, putting forward three proposals, one of which is the “Plan for China-Africa Cooperation on Talent Development,” he recalled.
Ambassador Jin assured that they would take the opportunity of implementing the “Plan for China-Africa Cooperation on Talent Development” to deepen exchanges and cooperation in higher education and vocational education between China and The Gambia.
He further informed that China has put forward new ideas and proposals in global governance, in which China calls for an equal and orderly multipolar world and a universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalisation.
He said this means that the legitimate interests and demands of every country in the international forum are respected, and every country plays its own role and contribution.
“We should resolutely oppose the attempt to roll back globalisation and abuse the concept of security; oppose all forms of unilateralism and protectionism, and make economic globalisation more open, inclusive, balanced and beneficial to all,” pointed out.
Ambassador Jin assured of China’s readiness to work with African countries, including The Gambia, to ensure the session a great success, which he said would definitely contribute to an equal and orderly multipolar world, and a universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalisation.
