Burkina Faso president threatens to conscript journalists, judges into the army if…

Burkina Faso’s military leader, Ibrahima Traoré, announced that any magistrate or judge who rules against his government will be conscripted into the army for two years.  Similarly, journalists who criticise his regime or publish negative reports about the nation or government will be required to serve in the army for two years as well.

This statement comes on the heels of an attempted coup that was foiled last Saturday, leading to the arrest of three individuals and the death of one.

Ibrahim Traoré, born 14 March 1988 is a Burkinabè military officer who has been the interim leader of Burkina Faso since the September 2022 coup d'état that ousted interim president Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba. Since then he has survived many attempts coups.

 At age 36, Traoré is currently the youngest serving state leader in the world, and the youngest serving president.

Meanwhile, in a separate issue in the region, Senegalese customs officials at the Port of Dakar have been alleged of embezzling eight billion CFA. Since the new administration took over in April, 700 workers have been retrenched from the ports.
