Nov 11, 2024, 10:20 AM

Sunday morning, the British High Commission, The Gambia Legion, veterans and their families joined the rest of the world in commemorating Remembrance Day.

A two-minute silence was observed by attendees paying their respects to the men and women who bravely fought during both World Wars and other conflicts.

The Remembrance Day which falls on 11 November each year, is designed to remember veterans who lost their lives in World Wars I and II.

The day has been observed in the Commonwealth of Nations member states since the end of the First World War to remember the members of the British armed forces who died in the line of duty.

Wreaths were laid by Deputy British High Commissioner, Martin Norman.

The Gambian Minister for Defence, Sering Modou Njie, and representatives of the Diplomatic Corps all laid wreaths to honour the bravery of all fallen heroes that served and sacrificed for our freedom.
