Barrow wins Africa Peace Promoter Award

His Excellency, President Adama Barrow received a delegation from the African Conference for Promoting Peace at the State House on Friday, 29th December 2023 to deliver a letter announcing him the Winner of the African Prize for Peace 2024.

Reacting to the news, President Barrow expressed gratitude for the nomination, and said: “I am grateful to receive such news. It is indeed a great honour to follow the footsteps of people like the Former President Muhammad Buhari in receiving this recognition.”  

The President of the Select Committee of the African Conference for Promoting Peace, Sheikh Abdullah Bin Bayyah informed President Barrow that the Select Committee established that he was the unanimous choice for the 2024 Award. President Barrow was recognised for his efforts in promoting Peace and Human dignity, and is an inspiration for other African Leaders to emulate him in building a peaceful and prosperous future for the African Continent. The Gambian leader will receive the Award in January in the Republic of Mauritania.   

The African Prize for Promoting Peace is a Mauritanian initiative established in 2020 in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Peace Forum, in the United Arab Emirates and has been won by Former Presidents of Niger and Nigeria, their Excellencies, Mohamed Bazoum and Muhammadu Buhari in 2022 and 2023 respectively. 

The Gambian Ambassador in Geneva, Professor Muhammed Kah accompanied the delegation to the State House in Banjul.
