Barrow visits Gunjur, tours Coastal Settlement new mosque

Mar 4, 2026, 11:09 AM

President Adama Barrow on Sunday visited Gunjur and toured the on-going completion works of the coastal settlement’s new mosque.

The mosque project, which began approximately nine years ago, was abandoned after funds ran out.

Initially sponsored by a Saudi benefactor, construction stalled for several years, leaving the structure incomplete.

The project regained momentum after President Barrow redirected his support toward completing the new mosque.

This followed widespread community rejection of plans to demolish and reconstruct the centuries-old main Gunjur Mosque.

Since President Barrow’s takeover in financing the completion phase, significant progress has been made.

The works are being executed by Giko Construction.

The President’s visit showed major improvements as the mosque nears completion.
