The Brikama Area Council (BAC), on Tuesday, recommended the suspension of its director of finance, Alhagie Jeng and scores of others amid corruption allegations while emphasising that a thorough and impartial investigation will be conducted.

Among those recommended for suspension are: Mr. Alhagie Jeng, Mr. Sulayman Jeng, Mr. Malick Jeng, Mr. Omar Saidykhan, Bai Sait Jeng, and Ebrima Jallow.

Mr. Alhagie Jeng has been accused of employing many members of his family or enrolling them on the council’s payroll without following due process for their employment. According to the Council, their employments were not confirmed by the Establishment Committee.

According to the Council, Mr. Sulayman Jeng was employed through nepotism, simply because of his father and he has also been implicated in the fraudulent collection of money by his brother Bai Sait Jeng. The council further stated that Sulayman has also failed to make any submissions for the months of September 2023, adding that this means he has been suppressing revenue for the month of September, resulting in the late payment of salaries.

Mr. Malick Jeng was also said to be employed without due process. Despite being responsible for the collection of valued properties, the Council revealed that Malick only accounted for D6,000 on 16th August 2023 and D2,000.00 on 24th August 2023.

Mr. Omar Saidykhan was accused of making several withdrawals from the Council’s Vista Account on 7th June 2023 the sums of D72,000.00; D63,000.00; D450,000.00; D450,000.00; D67,500.00; on 8th June 2023: D125,000.00. He is also alleged to have withdrawn from the GT Bank on 13th June, the sums of: D 71, 000.00 and D1,700,000.00; D1,000,000.00  on 15th June 2023. Council said these withdrawals for the month of June 2023, are all unaccountable.

Mr. Bai Sait Jeng was alleged to have been enrolled on the Council’s payroll without the proper process. The Council said his issue came to the attention of the Council after he was reported to a Council for collecting license revenue from the Council.

The council said it has already submitted a separate report to the establishment regarding Ebrima Jallow for allegedly printing revenue invoices outside of the Council without the knowledge of the Procurement Department. This, they say, is a clear violation of all the protocols and rules.

The Council further highlighted that Mr. Muhammed Ebrima Jallow is only on their payroll because of his father but not a staff of the Council. The Council recommends that his name be removed from the payroll with immediate effect.
