The Brikama Area Council (BAC) on Tuesday passed a resolution calling for the removal of its Chief Executive Office Modou Jonga and Director of Finance Alagie Jeng for alleged misappropriation of funds.

The Council made a recommendation that the two be removed for abuse of office, incompetence, in line with section 45 of the Local Government Act of 2002.

The two officials misled the council that they received 21 million Dalasi to be paid to the Council from the Government as royalty funds from Geology.

However, upon the request of the Brikama Area Council to Central Government to confirm the payment, the Treasury Department confirmed that 33 million Dalasis was paid and 3 million dalasis was overpaid.

Treasury asked the Brikama Area Council to refund the 3 million dalasis that was overpaid.

The Chairman of the Brikama Area Council, Yankuba Darboe, who was contacted for comments, confirmed to The Point.

Mr Darboe said there have been withdrawals of money in Brikama Area Council accounts, and about fifty million dalasis which the two have not provided receipts and invoices for. They were asked to produce receipts and vouchers for such withdrawals.

The two took loans worth 5 million dalasis from Jah Oil with no consultation and approval with the council and ministry.
