Alleged cannabis farm owner in Foni faces court

Sulayman Jatta, a resident of Foni, was recently arrested by operatives of the country’s Drug Law Enforcement Agency-The Gambia (DLEAG) for reportedly cultivating a cannabis farm in Foni, West Coast Region (WCR). 

The accused appeared before Magistrate A. Fofana of the Brikama Magistrate Court on two counts offence: cultivation of prohibited/unlawful drug contrary to section 36(1) of the Drug Control Act, and possession of prohibited drug for the purpose of drug trafficking.

The count one indictment before the court alleged that SulaymanJatta, on or about 6 October 2024 between Kanilai and Kunjehjeh village and its diverse places  in the WCR, cultivated some plants of cannabis sativa weighing 498kg 415g a prohibited drug, thereby committed an offence. 

Count two indictment states that Sulayman Jatta on or about 6 October 2024 between Kanilai and Kunjehjeh village and its diverse places in the WCR of The Gambia, Sulayman had in his possession 498kg 415g of cannabis plants, thereby committed an offence. 

the accused (Sulayman Jatta), however pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against him by narcotics officers.

Meanwhile, Chief Prosecutor N. Demba for DLEAG made an application for an adjournment. His application was granted by the presiding Magistrate, A. Fofana. The case was adjourned.
