Africell launches Impact Foundation

Africell Company, one of the biggest GSM operators in The Gambia yesterday launched an impact foundation dubbed: ‘Africell Impact Foundation’ as part of its social corporate responsibility in the country.

The launching ceremony was held at the National Centre for Arts and Culture (NCAC).

The event was attended by the first lady Fatoumatta Bah-Barrow, Cabinet ministers, United State Ambassador to the Gambia and the staff from Africell.

Peter Pham, the Africell ambassador in the U.S., said the Africell Impact Foundation ensures that Africell’s experience, skills and resources are activated during emergencies, and drives Africell response to long-term social challenges such as climate change.

Mr. Pham, said Arts, Culture and Heritage bring communities together, as Africell Impact Foundation gives a digital and physical platform arts, culture and heritages helping the stories which celebrate the energy and creativity of contemporary Africa.

Hussain Diab Ghanen, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Africell, said the Africell Impact Foundation is all about empowering people to contribute to their communities. “We help to build strong and resilient communities by bringing people together, both digitally and physically and connecting them to opportunities in Education, Arts, Sports and Healthcare.”

He added that the Africell Impact Foundation promotes active lifestyles, gives people access to better health related information and resources and helps talented athletes fulfill their potential.

Hassum Ceesay, the director of National Centre for Arts and Culture, said Africell is a genuine supporter of arts and culture in the country. “Our artists across the wider spectrum of the arts sector get support from Africell to enhance their artistic creativity in numerous ways and means,” he mentioned.

Mr. Ceesay added that Africell has provided them the needed materials to ensure the safe keeping of the cultural objects.
