The reputation of the school continues to grow beyond the borders of The Gambia, as its alumni make remarkable strides in academic arenas across the Arab world. Among them is former student Abubacarr Marong, [now studying at a university in Saudi Arabia], who has consistently excelled in high-level competitions.
School authorities reveal that his exceptional performance has drawn admiration from within the Arabic academic community. Other distinguished alumni, such as Kawsu Jaiteh and Ebrima Mass, are also making notable academic contributions at universities throughout the region. These successes, according to school officials, underscore the institution’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence and its rising international profile.
In a bid to further elevate the school’s offerings, the school authorities announced the launch of a new English section that will cater for students from Grades 10 to 12. The expansion, they added, is to prevent students from transferring elsewhere after Grade 12.
Speaking at the school’s 13th graduation ceremony held in Abuko, the principal of the school, Muhammed Lamin Chatty, underscored the institution’s commitment not only to fostering intellectual growth among its students but also to enhancing The Gambia’s image on the global stage. He highlighted the exceptional achievements of the school’s former students, whose academic success abroad continues to attract international attention.
“The outstanding performance of our alumni is a reflection of the dedication and hard work that defines this institution. We are proud to associate ourselves with individuals who not only excel academically but also contribute positively to the global community,” he said.
Chatty added that the school remains steadfast in its mission to produce well-rounded individuals capable of driving national progress and upholding the values of excellence and integrity.
The principal reflected on the school’s inspiring journey since its establishment, highlighting its academic achievements and ambitious plans for the future.
“From that modest start, the number of graduating students has steadily increased each year, a clear testament to the culture of academic excellence we continue to uphold,” he further said.
He commended the current graduating cohort for their outstanding performance. “This batch has excelled both in class and in character. Here, we teach all core subjects, English, Mathematics, Science, and others, and if a student fails, they must repeat. We do not compromise on academic standards,” he stated.
Chatty also appealed to philanthropists and well-wishers to support the institution’s vision, saying: “We rely solely on student fees to achieve our objectives, and external support would be invaluable.”
Lamin Joof, vice chairman of the school’s Board, emphasised the school’s significant contribution to imparting knowledge and nurturing student development. He affirmed that the institution remains committed to its core values of integrity and professionalism. “Our students are making meaningful contributions across various sectors of the country, including health, education and beyond,” he said.
Dr. Baba Ceesay, vice chancellor of Al Ihsan University, praised the school for its significant contribution to national development. “I am deeply pleased by the testimonies shared by the graduating students and guest speakers alike. These are clear indicators that the school is fulfilling its mission to prepare its students for a brighter future,” he stated.
He called on the graduates to apply their knowledge in service of society and the country at large. “It is vital that our graduates serve as proud ambassadors of the school, upholding the discipline and education they have received. I encourage them to continue supporting the growth and development of the institution, and to always remain connected to the school community.”
Former students Zainab Danso, now a practising nurse, and Nyima Camara both spoke about the positive impact the school has had on their personal and professional development.
