70 aspire for presidency in Senegal

Seventy aspirants including main opposition leader Ousmane Sonko have filed their papers to vie for presidency in the national elections slated for 25 February 2024.

Initially 260 aspirants announced they would run for the presidency but in the final review, 70 were able to file their paper by 25 and 26 December this year.

Candidates are obliged to deposit at the Electoral Commission 30 million CFA equivalent to 3 million Dalasis 

Furthermore, they should be able to get 13 members of parliament or  47,000 registered voters in different regions to sign a form to back the candidature of each aspirant.

The aspirants include: Amadou Ba, Papa Eugène Barbier, Boubacar Camara, Ibrahima Cissokho,  Ada Coundoul, Bougane Gueye Dany,  Hamidou Dème, Mamadou Lamine Diallo, Mame Boye Diao, Aminata Assome Diatta, Cheikh Dieng, Cheikh Bamba DIEYE, Cheikh Tidiane Dièye, Mamadou Dièye, Boun Abdallah Dionne, Babacar Diop, Mouhamed Ben Diop, Moussa Diop, Mamadou Diop Decroix, Abdourahmane Diouf, Elhadj Diouf, Jean Batiste Diouf, Dethié Fall, Pape Djibril Fall, Adama Faye, Bassirou Diomaye  Faye, Cheikh Tidiane Gadio, Malick Gakou, Malick Gueye, Assane Kâ, Amadou Aly Kane, Mouhamadou Madana Kane, Mouhamadou Fadilou Koné, Ndiack Lakh, Amadou  Ly "Akilé", Aliou Mamadou Dia, Birima Mangara, Bara Doly Mbacké, Abdoul Mbaye, Aida Mbodj, Serigne Mboup, Momar Ndao, Aly Ngouille Ndiaye, Babacar Ndiaye, Daouda Ndiaye, Samba Ndiaye, Souleymane Ndéné Ndiaye, Anta Babacar Ngom, Mary Teuw Niane, Al Hassane Niang, Thione Niang, Abdou Khadre Sall, Ibrahima Sall, Khalifa Ababacar Sall, Thierno Alassane Sall, Alioune Sarr, Amadou Seck, Idrissa Seck, Amsatou Sow Sidibé, Ousmane Sonko, Haguibou Soumaré, Habib Sy, Abdoulaye Sylla, Alpha Thiam, Hamidou Thiaw, Abdoulaye Tine, Aminata Touré, Karim Wade, Rose Wardini, and Mamadou Yatassaye.
