7 soldiers so far arrested, 2 at large

Government Spokesman Ebrima Sankareh has stated through press releases that so far seven soldiers of the Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) have been arrested in connection with the coup plot foiled on 20 December this year.

The arrest of the seven soldiers took place between 20 and 25 December 2022, while 2 more wanted soldiers are said to be at large.

The seven soldiers arrested so far are Captain Ebrahima Baldeh of GAF Military Intelligence/Security Unit at the Defence Headquarters in Banjul, Lieutenant Omar Colley from the First Infantry Battalion at Yundum Barracks (Gambia National Army), Lance Corporal Sanna Fadera - who was identified as the ringleader the day the coup plot was foiled, Corporal Mbarra Touray of the 1st Infantry Battalion in Yundum Barracks,  Corporal Njie Bakary of State Guard Battalion,  Sergeant Gibril Darboe of the Gambia Navy, and Corporal Ebrima Sanno of the Military Police, who is currently on study leave.

In the same vein, in line with international best practices, government yesterday inaugurated a legally-constituted investigative panel formally tasked with all investigations surrounding the foiled coup plot.
