The four accused pleaded not guilty to all the three counts and were granted court bail of Three Hundred and Ninety Thousand Dalasis (D390,000) with two Gambian sureties each.
It was confirmed that the first accused person, Kebba Touray, absconded through the ceiling at the charge office of the Kanifing Police Station around midnight when his accomplices were asleep and the officers in charge did not realise his escape.
According to the charge sheet, the accused person on 29 August 2023, in Fajara within the Kanifing Municipality, conspired among themselves to commit a felony therein wit: burglary and stealing.
On count two, Kebba Touray, the first accused, Ali Dukureh, second accused, Salieu Taal, third accused, Muhammad Sidibeh, fourth accused and Musa Faye, the fifth accused, on 29 August 2023 in Fajara within the Kanifing Municipality, at 3 a.m. broke into the house of one Amadou Njie with the intention to steal, thereby committed an offence.
On count three, the accused were charged with stealing the following items: three pairs of shoes valued at D51,500; I-Pod pro 3 valued at D19,000; Apple watch intra valued at D54,000; iPhone 14 pro max valued at D88,000; Cash amount of D175,000; four invoice books and notebook and a car key of Toyota Hilux with the registration number BJL 6415 R.
