The government explained that the proposed changes in the revised draft from "The Gambia Prisons Service" to "The Gambia Correctional Service" signified the government’s transformative shift towards modern, rehabilitative approaches.
Furthermore, the term "Correctional" the government states, it highlighted is a shift towards
rehabilitation, educational programmes, and preparation for reintegration into society rather than mere incarceration.
With an emphasis on correction and rehabilitation, the government pointed out that the approach aimed at addressing the root causes of criminal behaviour and striving to prevent reoffending.
