Khalifa Sall, who originally was a member of PS, formed his own political party ‘Manko-Taxawu Senegal’ which means join hands to save Senegal.

Meanwhile, Karim Wade, son of former president Abdoulaye Wade, who served in his cabinet, holding five ministerial positions at the same time was jailed in 2012 for corruption and embezzlement of public funds.

The 54-year-old politician was supposed to serve 6 years in prison, was pardoned in 2016 and later went to Qatar for asylum.

Karim Wade is an executive member of the main opposition PDS party.
