The accused are facing a charge of stealing by person in public service contrary to section 228 of the criminal code cap 10 Vol. 3 Revised Laws of The Gambia.
When the case was called, Deputy Superintendent Buteh Sawaneh announced his appearance for the Inspector General of Police (IGP).
The statement of offence indicated that the accused Babucarr Ceesay and Mbakeh Sanneh in November 2024 at the Brikama Hospital in the WCR, stole nine heavy-duty solar batteries of the said hospital valued at D225,000 while employees of the same hospital thereby committed an offence.
Both accused, however, denied the charges levelled against them when the charge sheet was read.
At that juncture, Deputy Superintendent Buteh Sawaneh sought an adjournment to enable him to secure their first witness.
Meanwhile, the prosecution didn’t object to the bail of the two accused.
The presiding Magistrate accepted the prosecutor’s application and granted the two accused bail in the sum of D300,000 each with two Gambian sureties who shall deposit their National identity card and a passport to the office of the court registrar and depose to an affidavit of means.
He also urged the accused to surrender their travelling documents.
The case was adjourned till 31 January 2025.
