Established on December 16, 1991, The Point since its inception continues to promote press freedom in Africa, while also highlighting and defending the voice of the voiceless.
This has enabled it contribute positively towards the development of the country's media landscape.
Suffice it to state here that these among others, also helped the paper in increasing its readership and by extension winning several awards both locally and at the international fronts.
This anniversary, therefore, means a lot to the company as it marks three decades of untiring, dedicated and productive service to the nation.
Thirty-one years on, the paper continues to stand firmly on the founding principles and values of promoting press freedom and advocating for the repeal of draconian media laws.
Notwithstanding, what is even important to note is that the paper also serves as a school for many young aspiring journalists, most of whom joined the paper on internship and other professional engagements.
However, the day also marks the 18th anniversary since the assassination of veteran Gambian journalist, Deyda Hydara, co-publisher and managing editor of The Point, who was gunned down in cold blood on the orders of ex-Gambian dictator, Yahya Jammeh.
Therefore, this anniversary celebration is not only a cause to celebrate, but also a moment to reflect on the lives and times of veteran journalist, the late Deyda Hydara, who played a significant role in championing press freedom in Africa and beyond.
The late veteran journalist was not only a freedom fighter, patriot and advocate, but a mentor, genius and an inspiration to many young journalists in the country.
Even during the height of the country's dictatorship era, late Deyda Hydara stood firmly by defending societal values and principles, while bringing to the fore the voice of the voiceless.
He will forever be remembered as a champion of press freedom and independence of the media, who wanted to make sure journalists in the country operate under an enabling environment.
Still there are challenges as far as freedom of the press is concerned, but the paper will continue its advocacy in promoting democratic and just society.
It has been a long journey, but the paper, as a household in the country, assures its vast readership of its resolve to continue informing, educating and entertaining the public with the most reliable, factual and trustworthy news contents.
We equally, thank all our vast advisers, subscribers and partners for their patronage these past years.
The Point in the service of delivering the most reliable and factual news content in the country, the best is yet to come.
So keep reading The Point.
