We all know police can't function effectively if they are not fully empowered to deliver as expected. The rising crime in the country coupled with other arising issues needs urgent attention.
It is in the news that the Minister of Interior, Abdoulie Sanyang, has informed deputies at the National Assembly that with support from GIZ, his ministry plans to build another five new police stations in the country.
The areas earmarked for this project include, Brikama, Basse, Soma, Farafenni, and a hybrid one in URR.
The project is being supported by GIZ. The Ministry seeks to reinforce and strengthen police services in the country. The new police stations are earmarked for Brikama, Basse, Soma, Farafenni, and a hybrid one in URR.
However, the move is part of Police High Command’s resolve to provide better infrastructure and create conducive working environment for its gallant men and women in their place of work.
The move is not only laudable, but will go a long way in strengthening security in the country.
This move comes amid rising need for security in the country. Just yesterday, we reported about a robbery case in Karanta village in the Sami District of CRR, where robbers attacked a local shop and escaped with one hundred thousand dalasi.
This constant robbery attacks show the gravity of the issue and the need to step up police patrol in the provinces especially in the border communities.
Communities should also remain vigilant as most of these robbers are people living with them, who know their ins and outs and when to strike. Also, people should remember that security should not be left to the security officials alone. We can all be security agents by reporting anything ‘strange’ or unusual happenings to the competent authorities for actions.
By that we are contributing to security of the country.
In the past, frequent armed robberies in rural communities used to be a common scenario. However, with the scaling-up of security presence and routine patrols, the issue has deteoriated remarkably. While we celebrate the success registered in that regard, it appears the menace is resurfaced again with recent robbery reported yesterday in Karanta village.
We commend our gallant men and women in uniform, who put their life on the line to ensure the protection and security the citizens deserve. It takes dedication, courage, determination and sacrifice to serve in the country’s security domain despite the low renumerations most received.
But the service they provide is one that is rewarding and noble. It is high time communities embrace community policing initiative to better serve this great nation of us .
